A lot of folks really believe thin is better than thicker normal grout joints. The reality is typical 3/8″ grout joints are best for 2 main reasons. 1. Less grout breakup 2. Sanded Grout.  If you have grout joints less than 3/8″ then unsanded grout is utilized. Grout that is unsanded does not recover once dirty so quickly. The difference may be compared to “creamy versus chunky”.
